Marijuana Violence and Law

In our Commentary, Is Marijuana a Missing Link?, Dr. Eric Voth, provides his perspective on the evidence of increased marijuana usage and its connection to the upsurge in violent behavior, especially in states that have legalized pot.

Our feature paper, Marijuana Violence and Law, a reprint with permission from The Journal of Addiction Research and Therapy, is by Norman S Miller, MD, JD, President of Health Advocates in East Lansing, MI, and Thersilla Oberbarnscheidt, MD, PhD, Department of Psychiatry, Central Michigan University, Mount Pleasant, MI. This paper reviews highly publicized tragic acts of violence in the U.S. along with the perpetrator’s connection to marijuana use. Marijuana was the single most common correlative variable in otherwise diverse populations and circumstances surrounding the association of marijuana use and violence.
